“ Did you know that a child dies every three seconds due to poverty? The Foundation believes that being born into poverty is not the fault of the child. It is simply the lottery of birth. And it is fundamental to our values that the place of birth should not be allowed to dictate the quality of life of a child. At the Foundation, we have a ten year plan to assist children who are desperately in need of help ”
Gopakumar Nair, Director, Lebara Foundation
• Lebara believes in giving something back and making a difference. The Lebara Foundation was founded in 2005 by a group of trustees, to provide housing and schooling for displaced children around the world.
• The Foundation is growing rapidly with a unique combination of staff and trustees from diverse businesses and international development backgrounds. A number of high-quality, innovative development projects are underway around the world in partnership with the United Nations, international non-governmental organisations, the private sector, national governments and communities.
• In just two years, the Foundation has grown significantly from supporting around 1,000 children in just one country to now supporting some 150,000 children in 11 countries around the world. There are ambitious plans to help thousands of children over the next ten years.
• One of the key projects will begin shortly in India with an estimated budget of 10 million pounds. An innovative project – it’s aim is to build a successful model of community based care thereby reducing child poverty and improving the health of poor and vulnerable children and families in remote villages in and around Southern India.
• The Lebara shareholders have just announced a 10 million Euro donation to the foundation to mark the 10 Year Anniversary.
