John, 18, is an only child and lives with his parents in a refugee camp for Sri Lankans, near the city of Coimbatore in South East India. John dropped out of school because his parents were struggling to fund his education; his painter father works irregularly and his mother’s camp shop earns her a pittance. John joined his father as a decorator to help make ends meet.
But now the Lebara Child Development Programme team is paying for him to attend a one-year automobile electricals course, so he can enjoy a career that offers better pay and prospects than painting.
When he has completed his course the Lebara Foundation will help John find a suitable job, so helping safeguard his family’s future.
