Jay Sean crowned Lebara Mobile Asian Music Awards’ Artist Of The Decade!
Last night (9th October) the music and media industry gathered to celebrate the international achievements of British Asian pop superstar Jay Sean. The Lebara Mobile Asian Music Awards’ Evening with Jay Sean marked 10 years in the industry for Jay, coinciding with the awards’ own 10th year anniversary. The star made a short visit to the UK especially for the event, where he took part in an intimate Q&A hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Tommy Sandhu, and was later presented the special ‘British Artist Of The Decade’ award by Richard Robertson, Managing Director of Lebara Mobile.
Other guests at the exclusive evening included Eastenders actress and singer Preeya Kalidas, BAFTA award winning actor Adam Deacon, ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ actor Ameet Chana, Punjabi singers Juggy D and H-Dhami and rising British Asian stars such as Shide Boss and Arjun.
On accepting the ‘Artist Of The Decade’ award, Jay Sean said: “I am truly honoured to receive this award. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for some of my family and friends who are in the room tonight, so to receive it in front of them is really special. I want to say a big thank you to the Asian Music Awards for this memorable evening and for all their support over the years. And finally a big congratulations for 10 years of the Asian Music Awards!”
Richard Robertson, Managing Director of Lebara Mobile UK added: “This is a significant event for Lebara, not least as we have also recently celebrated our 10th anniversary. Celebrating 10 years of the Asian Music Awards with an artist who has won 15 awards over the last decade is a fantastic achievement. Jay Sean is a tremendous artist with a great personality, he has reached many milestones with his global achievements and he can now add this special award to the many AMAs he has already won.”
From his early days making music with producer Rishi Rich and Punjabi singer Juggy D, to currently being signed to Cash Money Records, home to global superstars such as Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj, Jay Sean has dominated the charts worldwide with hit after hit over the last 10 years. Having reached the number one spot in the US with ‘Down’, a song which now has over an incredible 120

million hits on YouTube, Jay continues to move from strength to strength in many different parts of the world as a singer and songwriter. He embarks on the next leg of his world tour, with Japan this week, followed by Australia and New Zealand next week. His brand new single ‘So High’ will be premiered on Australia’s ‘X-Factor’ on 16th October.
The Lebara Mobile Asian Music Awards celebrate their 10th Anniversary on 25th October at Wembley Arena. International music star Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will headline the show with a full live band.
