Lebara announces Global Alliance with Nokia

First-of-its-kind migrant MVNO-handset manufacturer deal
October 4, 2011, London, UK – Lebara, a world leading telecoms operator for migrant communities, has announced a global alliance with Nokia to deliver handsets to its customers worldwide. The agreement covers a significant six figure volume with the first devices being sold in the UK market from the beginning of October 2011. This is the first time that a migrant MVNO has agreed a global deal with a handset manufacturer.
The move supports Lebara’s ongoing commitment to providing relevant products and services to its global ethnic customer base. The handset range will include the Nokia 1616, 100, C1-01, C3-00 and the 500 models. The entry price of £24.99 per handset will include a £10 call credit. Initially the Nokia C1-01 handset bundle will be available in Tesco stores across the UK. Handsets will also be available from several other leading UK retailers, including Carphone Warehouse.
The Nokia handset bundles will be rolled out across Lebara Group operating countries over the coming weeks. The handsets will be available through a range of national retail chains including El Cortes Ingles in Spain.
DataSelect will be the UK handset distributor in 2011, with Brightpoint fulfilling the role across all other markets.

The devices will feature Lebara variant software which will enable a Lebara network lock and access to Lebara data services in each country, ensuring ultimate ease of use. The handsets will include Lebara’s own branding and an AR Rahman commissioned Lebara ring- tone on each device.
