PRESS RELEASE
LEBARA 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CHARITY CAMPAIGN
- Lebara will donate 1 million euros to help educate over 100,000 vulnerable children in 10 countries -
Monday 1 August 2011 – Today Lebara, one of Europe’s leading telecoms operators for migrant communities, is proud to announce a new charity campaign due to begin on Monday 1 August in all of Lebara’s eight markets globally.1 As part of the company’s 10 Year Anniversary plans, Lebara will donate 1 million euros to help educate over 100,000 disadvantaged children in 10 countries around the world.
Lebara will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in September this year and to mark this significant milestone the company is committed to giving something back to the countries where Lebara customers have family and friends. In partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Lebara will support and provide much-needed education and protection measures to over 100,000 children in need around the world. Lebara has for a number of years supported education projects for displaced children in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through the Lebara Foundation, a separate not-for-profit organisation set up by Lebara in 2005.
For a three month period, Lebara will donate a percentage from customer top-ups in every market to UNHCR and IFRC projects. 2 One hundred percent of the funds raised will go towards the education of children in need in each of the following countries: Colombia, Ghana, India, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania and Turkey. More details on the projects can be found at www.lebara.com/1million.
Yoganathan Ratheesan, CEO of Lebara, commented: “We are very proud of what we have achieved at Lebara over the last decade and every day feel hugely fortunate for the opportunities we have had. My fellow founders and I felt moved to mark this anniversary by giving something back to underprivileged children in countries where we have strong connections through our customers.
1 Lebara operates in Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK
2 In the UK, for every customer top-up of £10 or more, Lebara will donate 1% to the €1 million target

“We continue to support other education projects close to our roots in Sri Lanka and India through the Lebara Foundation and are also pleased to partner with both the UNHCR and IFRC on this important anniversary project.”

ABOUT UNHCR
UNHCR was established in 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and displaced persons. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of persons of concern, including refugees, internally displaced persons and the stateless. In more than six decades, the agency has helped tens of millions of people in humanitarian crisis to restart their lives. Today, a staff of some 7,190 people in more than 120 countries continues to help some 36.4 million persons.
Out of the world's 3.4 million refugee children and children in refugee-like situations, about one out of every four refugee children does not access primary education. Four out of five refugee children do not have access to secondary education. UNHCR's primary focus is the protection and education of these children, by promoting increased school enrollment, better quality of education, and safe learning environments. Without an education, children and adolescents are less likely to be healthy, grow strong, be safe or fully participate in their communities. More information can be found here: www.unhcr.org/.
