Lebara Names David Moffatt Chief Executive Officer and Yoganathan Ratheesan Chairman of Lebara Group

Lebara Group today announced that David Moffatt has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective 10 August 2012. Yoganathan Ratheesan will become the Chairman of Lebara Group after holding the position of CEO since he co-founded the company in 2001.
At the company’s 10th anniversary in 2011, Yoganathan announced the company’s ambition to be the brand of choice for 1 billion people by 2020.
Yoganathan Ratheesan commented: “Lebara is ready to move to the next phase of our exciting business journey. David spent nine years at Telstra, Australia’s largest telecoms company first as Chief Finance Officer and Group Managing Director of Finance and Administration and subsequently as Group Managing Director, Consumer. Under David’s leadership, the company launched the innovative new T-Life retail experience, implemented Market Based Management and migrated its customers to NEXT G, Australia’s leading mobile telecommunications network. Between 2006 and 2009
David’s Business unit outgrew its major competitor by more than AUD$1 billion top and bottom line. Prior to Telstra, David was instrumental in establishing GE Capital in Australia. GE Capital is the world’s largest, diversified financial services company and David was CEO of the Australian business between 1995 and 2001. David has won several industry awards and supported a wide range philanthropic organisations and projects.
Yoganathan co-founded Lebara in 2001, at the age of 25 with partners Leon R. Ranjith and Kandiah Baskaran, with the clear aim of transforming the international calling market by providing ethnic and migrant communities with high quality, low cost solutions for keeping in touch with family and friends. More than ten years on, Lebara is one of the Europe’s fastest growing mobile companies, with some 4 million active customers, 1,000 employees and operations in eight countries. In the last three years the company has increased it profitability and grown its revenues by more than €278 million.
