Lebara Donates 1 Million Euros

- Meets fundraising commitment set out in 10 Year Anniversary charity campaign - - 100 per cent of funds raised go towards supporting underprivileged children -
London, UK–Wednesday November 2, 2011 – Lebara, one of Europe’s leading telecoms operators for migrant communities, is pleased to announce that it has raised 1 million Euros as part of its 10 Year Anniversary charity campaign. The campaign funds will be used to help educate 100,000 disadvantaged children in 10 countries around the world.
As part of its 10 Year Anniversary celebrations, Lebara pledged to donate one per cent from customer top-ups in each of its eight markets globally1 to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)2.
On fulfilling its anniversary fundraising pledge, Yoganathan Ratheesan, CEO of Lebara Group, commented: “From the outset, our clear ambition with Lebara was to create a company that would enrich the lives of migrant communities by connecting them with family and friends back home. We take this occasion to thank our customers for their enduring support. They are the lifeblood of the company and it’s through their commitment and loyalty that we are able to give back through our charity projects.”
Lebara vows that one hundred per cent of the funds raised in this initiativewill go towards providing much-needed education and protection measures for disadvantaged children in the following countries: Colombia, Ghana, India, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania and Turkey. In addition to the 10 Year Anniversary charity campaign, Lebara supports education projects for displaced children in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through the Lebara Foundation, the not-for-profit, philanthropic arm of the Lebara Group set up in 2005. To mark the 10 Year Anniversary, the company shareholders announced a 10 million Euro commitment to the Lebara Foundation. The money will go towards providing housing, schooling and sustainable community initiatives for displaced children around the world.
