Arththy, her husband and two young children were struggling to make ends meet in a small house they inherited from her father-in-law. Her husband was working irregularly as a carpenter and they barely had enough money to buy food on a day-to-day basis.
Their situation was made even more desperate when they were forced to flee the civil war in Sri Lanka and sought refuge at a rehabilitation camp where they had some momentary respite and food.
When it was time to return to their village, they discovered that their house had been destroyed. World Vision helped them construct a temporary home until the Lebara Foundation learned of their situation and built them a permanent house in the Lebara Village.
They are now planning to rear poultry which will ensure a more sustainable living in the future.
