Anil and his wife have three children aged between three and 13 years-old. Anil is a mason, working irregularly and therefore struggling to support his family of five with food while also keeping his children in education.
During the Sri Lankan civil war, they were displaced six times and were struggling to survive on small portions of boiled rice. During this desperate time, his brother-in-law died after he was caught in the cross fire.
When they returned home, they found their house was damaged so they had to build a temporary home with the help of on the ground NGOs. The Lebara Foundation has since built them a permanent home where they can now try and rebuild a life for themselves.
