Anparasan, 17, lives with his mother and brother in the Kottapattu Refugee Camp for Sri Lankans in South East India. His once-wealthy parents were driven from Sri Lanka in 2006 by the conflict there.
Anparasan is a studious boy and was a top performer at his school, before being forced to quit his education due to poverty. First, Anparasan’s father was jailed for illegally re-entering Sri Lanka, and then his brother was wed, meaning his income as a painter was lost to the family.
He took up decorating to support his family, but help from the Lebara Foundation has allowed a delighted Anparasan – and his brother – to rejoin their old school.
