Lebara and Allianz Group announce insurance partnership to consumers in emerging markets

  • Partnership provides insurance to global migrant community
  • Free Second Medical Opinion service launches today
  • 80%1 of people in developing countries without insurance cover

London, 7 March 2016: Lebara, a mobile and media services provider to the world’s migrant community, today announced a partnership with global insurer the Allianz Group. The partnership will provide insurance and assistance services to meet the needs of migrants and their families globally.

This collaboration marks a first from a European based mobile operator to provide not only insurance and assistance to its European based customers, but also cover their family members abroad.

In a market where, at most, only 1 in 5 people1 in developing countries are covered by their local public social security systems, there is a clear need to help protect themselves against the risks that they may face.

The first service launched as a result of the partnership, called Second Medical Opinion is being rolled out to Lebara customers in the UK, for free, from today. The service offers customers the following:

  • Second opinion on major medical conditions from a network of experts from around the world
  • 24/7 telephone support on health and wellbeing matters
  • Free enrollment of two additional family members in the UK or abroad

The UK is home to 2.53 million2 foreign-born residents from developing countries, each supporting at least 2 family members in their country of origin3. The Second Medical Opinion service is facilitated by Best Doctors and will provide timely and valuable support to these migrant workers and their family members.

Soon, Lebara’s UK customers will be able to enroll their loved ones for a wide range of Allianz services, from both home and within some major countries of origin.
